A season's worth of finales

You know, I had planned on writing a recap for every season finale as I watched them this year, but, well, I didn't. So without further adieu, here is my rendition of the best of the finales.

ER
This finale was 15 years in the making. I have been watching this show since I was 15 years old (so now you know that I turned 30 this year...) and I felt very nostalgic watching the last episodes. Unlike many, I really enjoyed the finale. I felt ER went out the way it came in. Life in the ER at County General existed before we saw it and it felt like it would continue after the cameras left. The final shot of the entire hospital was a nice treat for fans - in 15 years we never saw that view of County from the ambulance bay. And though it didn't tie up all the loose ends, I felt closure. But I will certainly miss this show come next year. I don't know what I'll do on Thursday nights with only The Office to watch.

Scrubs
So it seems fitting to review the finale of Scrubs after ER. Both set in a hospital and following the doctors and nurses, but oh so different! To me this was the perfect series finale I have ever seen. (and not just because Scott Foley was in it, though that certainly helps!) I cried a little, I laughed a lot and I felt like the show was very true to itself and its fan base. It seemed like a natural ending. It felt fitting that JD would move to be near his son, that his relationship with Eliot would progress and that Turk would find his way to be chief of surgery. I definitely cried when JD walked out of the hospital and watched the movie of his future life. We're left to see what could have happened in further seasons, without it being too much. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about the final episode. And I loved they weaved in shout outs to other great comedies finales (from an eerily similar Will & Grace moment with JD's and Turk's kids getting married to the switch off the light and close the door of Growing Pains.) If the show comes back next year in some other format without JD I won't watch. For me, Scrubs has ended.

Oh, and I actually cheered when Dr. Cox recited what I will call the "Hugh Jackman" rant - my favourite of all time! I loved that JD gave him the book. And I loved it even more when Harry admitted how he really felt about JD.

And so fitting that we still will never be sure of the janitor's name.


The Unit
I almost can't write this one. I am still too upset. I have barely started to recover from the cancellation of Veronica Mars and now this. Where am I supposed to get my Cool Breeze and Dirt Diver fix now??? What are my husband and I supposed to watch together? I have to say, I felt it coming. The season finale felt like a series finale. At least they tied up enough loose ends that I felt some closure. Betty Blue got married to the love of his life. Kim and Bob were reunited with their kids. Tiffy and Mack have saved their marriage and Mack has gone from renegade to a good family man and father. And the look of Jonas' face says that he will go back to Molly. There was even a bit of a truce between Red Cap and Whiplash. The last episode packed action with drama, and it was as good as ever. I am sssoooo upset about this show. What are the morons at CBS thinking?? Why is every good show canceled before it's time? I honestly hope CBS goes the way of the dinosaur.

90210
Sometimes I think I might be too old to watch this show. And then I post something about it on Facebook and I get a lot of comments from my friends so I know I'm not alone. In fact, I wonder if anybody in their actual target demographic watches the show or if it's those of us left over from the original Beverly Hills 90210 (which, oddly, I did not watch the first time around).

This was the biggest let down of the finales for me. It just didn't do it for me. At all. It felt too, I don't know, wrong. The only characters who continue to be interesting and quirky/funny are Adrianna and Navid. Silver has her moments. In the beginning I thought it had a lot of the wit and sarcasm of Veronica Mars, but as time goes on I see that less and less. Considering the guy writing it is supposed to be an ex-Degrassi writer, I really expected more. However, some redeeming moments; I'm interested to see how the whole Naomi-Liam-sister thing will play out with him off to reform school. Did that scream of Spring Awakening or what? I mean, couldn't they just have finished off the show by breaking into a rendition of "Totally Fucked"? (Still upset at end of Spring Awakening's run in NYC too - best Broadway score EVER - but I digress). I guess I found some irony in the possible nod to Spring Awakening since that was the school's musical back in September and now we see it come full circle. In fact, Annie's fall from grace also felt very Spring-ish. Did not need to see the parents high on hash brownies though. I am also not impressed that Ethan hasn't been renewed. I suspect they don't think he's "pretty boy" enough and that's why we now have Liam. But um, I liked Ethan. And it's not like he's ugly and Liam doesn't do it for me anyway. Overall, meh for this finale. And, meh that I might tune in next September.


Celebrity Apprentice
Jesse should have won. Failing that, Annie should have won. Boo Joan Rivers. And Melissa Rivers' freakout at her firing? Um, I'm sorry but she just made herself look like an even bigger idiot on TV. I have zero respect for her. And tons of respect for a poker player from Vegas I hadn't even heard of until this show. And did I mention that I love Jesse James? Love, love, love. Love him most because his charity looks like it would really help a lot of kids in the inner city and that he hasn't forgotten where he came from. Boo Donald.

I can't believe I even watched this, let alone got addicted to it. Blame my husband.


The Office
Pam is pregnant!!! :) :) :) Well, at least I think Pam is pregnant. A little let down by the Michael/Holly storyline, but I suppose they have to tease that out for a while. I hope we see more of Holly - she is the yang to Michael's yin. Same great laughs you would expect from this show and it was great to see the team face off against corporate. Looking forward to next season and happy not to have a cliffhanger to agonize over all summer.

Well, that's pretty much all I watch these days. As you can see, this Prime Time TV Addict may end up in forced early retirement next year if the only decent show left on tv to watch is The Office...
